The House of Arpad, Hungary's first ruling dynasty, may have formed 4,500 years ago in a region in what is today northern Afghanistan, according to a team of Hungarian scientists. Pathologist Zoltan Szentirmay, former head of the Pathology Centre of the National Institute of Oncology, Endre Neparaczki, head of the Archeogenetic Research Centre of the Research Institute for the Hungarian Nation, and Bela Melegh, professor of Pecs University's Institute of Medical Genetics, carried out the research.
